Unable to access NAS drive I have just installed.

Just completed installing and setting up a Netgear ReadyNAS Duo v1 - 2 discs each Raid0. On our home network we have 2 pcs (PC1 and PC2) a printer and a NAS drive.

The problem I need help with is that PC1 saw the new drive and its main folders immediately the installation was complete. PC2 "sees" the NAS drive in the list under Network, but any attempt to open and explore results in an error message \\nasname is not accessible ..... ..... Logon failure: account currently disabled

The NAS has no registered users - our policy being there is just the two of us and network security is not an issue.

We have checked through all network settings we can find to locate any differences and can find none.

I can access the NAS no problem using RAIDar the app to setup and configure the NAS, but can't get any access as a common user, even though I run as Administator.

Any help will be much appreciated.

When you set it up which pc did you use? I was wondering if you logged on and setup and account or have you just used the admin account. If from pc2 you goto the admin page and login as admin then try and connect does it let you

It was setup from PC2 - and yet its PC1 that got to see inside first. Nothing was setup on PC1 they just saw it as a new network drive and were able to go straight in (as expected) and see the storage available. No passwords were required. Neither PC1 nor PC2 were setup as registered users on the NAS drive - it was intentionally left open for guest access to all created shares. There are 2 drives, each set as a RAID0 volume and appear as two separate volumes. No RAID capability was required or setup - done this way as ReadyNAS Duo v1 did not understand JBOD, but that's all we wanted.

I log in as admin (from PC2) - and while logged in - I still cannot access NAS drive as myself.
Of course as admin I cannot see the shares or content, I cannot save files or read any files on there. I just have admin permissions to set it all up, delete shares should I desire, but cannot see content like a normal user would expect.

As its very specific to the drive I would go on to their forums ReadyNAS Network Storage - NETGEAR Communities

    Thank you for your interest.
I know it looks drive specific from PC2 but from a network point of view, all works except PC2 so I'm not sure.
Will hold my breath to see if anyone else bites and in the meantime I have posted this problem on the Netgear community forum.
    Thanks.

I have now got round the problem (rather than solved) and I do not understand why...

When installing the ReadyNAS drive you need to create shares - and when a share is created and named Alan (that's me) I am forbidden access to the NAS drive from my PC. When I call the share any other name - I am allowed access to the NAS drive. I actually called it AlanR and that's good enough to permit me access. Remember there are no users, no groups, no restrictive permissions and no passwords set up on the NAS drive.

Anybody in the world who understands what's going on is welcome to contribute. Me? - I'm just glad it works and have no clue behind this totally illogical and inexplicable situation.

It makes no sense - and guess what? - I am past caring, but would be interested if anyone has any thoughts.
