W7 peer to peer networking issue

I have four W7 Pro 64 bit computers. i have an issue with only one not allowing connections to shared C drive and two folders.

We will call that one A and the rest of the cooperating computers B, C and D.

B,C and D can all see and connect to each others C drive and shared folders. B,C and D can all see and not connect to A's C drive and two folders.

A is the red headed step child. I have the C drive and four other folders shared out. Attempting to connect to the C drive and two of the folders results in "Windows cannot access...You do not have permission to access \\Computer A\c:". The other two folders connect with no issues.

All have the same permissions (Everyone - full control)

Each computer only has one user - all as administrator.

I am stumped. Sharing settings should be global to my thinking. Why would some items allow connection and others not allow connection?

What other info can I provide that would help you to help me?

Welcome to the forum. When you shared c did you check that it wasn't already shared often it's shared as a hidden share starting with $ can you connect if you give a username and password for the PC admin?

I think you went a little over my head. I am not familiar with a hidden share and have not seen any $.

I did add an administrator account to the A computer, which of course adds another login option when restarting the computer. Since it had no positive effect in connecting to its C drive I have removed that account.

When I try to connect to the C drive on the A computer I am not getting any credential requests. I am simply getting the dialog box telling me I cannot access....

How are you connecting is explorer, CMD line? By default Windows passes username password of the user your logged in with in explorer map network drive it gives the option to add username password. If you are logged in with an account the same as the PC your connecting it should work. Have you turned off required password for the share?

I open Windows Explorer and double click on the shared C drive.

All four PC's have their own login name and password. I assume that is what you are referring to.

I did a little search and found out some info on the hidden share $ and it is something I probably don't want to mess with as it seems it could have some detrimental effects if turned off. But that has me wondering if you meant that I could unshare the C drive on Computer A and I might be able to access it because of the hidden share?

If you open a cmd prompt then type

net share does the c$ show up you can only connect as an admin.

Try from a cmd prompt use the admin username on the pc your connecting and that password if the cmd then works you can save the cmd a txt file with a .cmd extention and and click on that to connect in the future or set it persistent
