Pls Pls Help - Can't print from WIN 10 to HP LJ 3015 on WIN 7 PRO

I used to be able to network everything including HP data collection units, data input keypads, PCs, plotters, printers, IBM PCs, Printers, and last model of Selectric typewriters, with slow-ass Hayes modems when remote and backing up data and programs separately on Colorado Backups in a methodical sequence of differential, incremental and complete backups. Now I cannot even print from a Dell laptop running Windows 10 to an HP LaserJet on Gateway PC running Windows 7 Pro across a high-end Verizon router. What is this world coming to?

I am sooooooo tired of everyone in my family emailing me the documents they want printed. At least my teenagers have reasonable print jobs; my wife on the other hand... Fuggettaboutit. (The last time I relied on centralized print jobs was in the mid-80s using MTS running on an IBM 3081D Dual Processor Machine, commonly referred to as "Sybil", via a VT-100 ASCII terminal.)

Please, please, please tell me how to get my wife's Windows 10 laptop to print on my HP LJ 3015 attached to my Windows 7 Pro desktop.

Thanks!

Joe

If it was me, I'd tell them, "Sorry, I'm unable to print!" But that's just me.

Seriously, can you set the printer up as a true network printer (everyone printing through the router), rather than the printer being shared off of one of the computers? Doing it that way would eliminate the complication of Windows 10 to Windows 7.

Another option would be to get a $30 printer from of Walmart.com, and connect it directly to your wife's computer, and she then prints to that printer.

Well, I have been out of work for 22 months and on disability for 10 months plus my wife just lost her job... Making my 10-year-old desktop and 15-year-old printer is real important to us.

Money is not gonna solve this problem unfortunately!

Do you or anyone else have any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Joe

Mrjimphelps is right, get a network cable and connect the printer to your router. Assign the printer a static IP Address. You don't even have to reinstall the printer. Just go to printer properties and click on the Ports tab > Add Port and assign it the static IP Address.

The printer does not have an ethernet port, but the router has a USB Type A port and the printer has a USB Type B port, of course. Will the recommendation above work using a USB cable?

I have learned that the USB ports on the back of Verizon's routers are only setup to charge cellphones.

Imagine that... How freaking stupid!

"The USB port is powered (useful for charging a cell phone), but is not otherwise enabled. So no, as has been stated in many other posts, you can not connect your USB printer to it."

So, I am back to having to network my 2 WIN7Pro PCs and 1 WIN10Home PC... Please!

BTW... You wouldn't happen to have some extra cash laying around? I'm thinking... $30 + ink + sales tax?

Wish I could help.

When it's time to buy ink, sometimes it's cheaper just to buy a new printer with ink, than to buy the ink alone!

Fun thread, but still can't print to a USB printer on W7PC from W10PC

I am still in dire need for some help printing from a WIN10 PC to a 13-year old HP LJ 3015 (not P3015) connected to a WIN7PRO PC via USB cable.

Background: I carefully followed a tutorial for creating and joining a homegroup that I thought applied to a network containing both WIN7 and WIN10 PCs, but could not get the WIN 10 PC to join the homegroup created by the WIN7PRO PC.

Question: Is the following statement correct?

"Computers must be running Windows 7 or Windows 8 to participate in a homegroup."

After rereading his thread a few times, Joe wonders, "Why didn't anyone respond to either question in my last message?"
