Network logon no longer automatically occurs

This machine is not the one I have listed in my info. This is an older Gateway laptop, running an Intel Core 2 Duo processor (2.8GHz) with 8 gb RAM. I have Windows updates enabled, so I should be running the latest version of Win7.

I've been putting up with this annoyance for a while. Long enough where I've memorized my ISP's rather lengthy password. Whenever the PC restarts -- whether it was turned off or just went to sleep -- I have to re-enter the password for the computer's wireless adapter.

I tried msconfig and thought I'd found the answer under the Tools tab. I selected Computer Management and then Network Connections. Startup Type was shown as manual. So I changed it to Automatic. Then I shut down the machine and restarted it. Unfortunately after this restart it still came up with the little round yellow ball where the signal strength bars normally are. So I'm having to type in the password still.

Dang, I thought for sure I'd found it. I mean, switching Startup Type from "manual" to "automatic" sure seems like it should have fixed things, yes?

Folks here have always been so helpful and on-target with their help in the past. I'm hopeful y'all can get me unstuck once again.

It's not clear what password your referring to are you using a modem to connect or is it wireless connection to a router

Quoting from my original message:

" I have to re-enter the password for the computer's wireless adapter."

So yes, it's a wireless connection to a router. Nothing's change on the router. I can't be sure, since it's been a while, but the computer may have had an unexpected shut-down, perhaps being the reason why its behavior changed?

Come to think of it, we do have occasional power flickers around here -- enough to cause the router to reboot, so I can't honestly say that nothing's changed with it. I have another computer that connects to the router with an Ethernet cable, and it works fine.

Have ticked the box when you view stations that says connect automatically?

Yes, that box remains ticked. In other words, when I click on the yellow ball, the small box showing available connections pops up and it shows my router as being the closest, and shows its box checked. This is another thing I've wondered about -- I mean if it shows that box checked, why isn't it connecting automatically?

So anyway, I click on my router, then the "Connect" button, then I have to type in my router's password, and then I'm good to go.

Sorry for not responding sooner.

If, by "informing the box for a day," you mean clicking on "disconnect" then reconnect (and having to retype my PW) for a day, okay, I'll try this.

I'm not sure if what I did was deleting my wireless profile or not. In the Network and Sharing Center, I clicked on Wireless Network Connection, and then Disable. I then wen through the process of re-enabling my wireless connection. I haven't yet tried shutting down the machine and restarting it to see if that made a difference. But I guess I will once I finish up with a few other tasks I have open at the moment.

I just realized I didn't update my above comments. I did indeed shut down the system and it still behaves the same.

My AT&T set-top box (with the hard drive) has gone wonky on me so I'm gonna replace it. I have the replacement here, just haven't done it yet cuz I have a bunch of recordings I'm trying to get through and watch before I make the change. I don't think this component will have anything to do with the problem I'm experiencing though, since it has to do with internet access and this unit is for TV only.
