The router doesn't settle down but the ISP disam does it checks connection and true to give you top speed reliable if you turn off router or it has problems it reduces the speed it can take a long time to increase speed which it will do in the end. Have you looked at the new 6g service Google see if you can get it it's new wireless over 30 meg download about 24

Thanks, I'll wait to see if things are quicker tomorrow. If not maybe a few tweaks are needed at the SP end of things.

I use an Ethernet cable and am happy with that set up.

I was quietly hoping the new router would solve this but after a few days of consistency and getting on average 1.38 mbps, things have been fluctuating again, getting lower speeds, a couple of instances of pages not loading. I've re-set the router twice today and each time it makes the speed come back again to about 1.38 but I know that continually re-setting the router is not a long term solution.

I've spoken this morning to the SP and they say there's nothing obvious on their settings that can be altered. The maximum amount of speed I should be getting is about 2 mbps which I believe I'd be happy with if I could just get there.

So I'm now wondering about the computer side of things. I've run Malwarebytes and anti-virus and all come back with no issues. Are there any tests, or diagnostics I can run / look at, anything I can look at on my laptop to rule that out?

Well I'm very happy to say that this has been resolved. Although a new router made a slight improvement, the real fix was a "shift and lift" done by Outreach. This has resulted in an increase to 5 mbps, it's never been so quick! Interestingly, it was me who suggested this to my SP but it's done the trick. Am a very happy bunny!
