Windows 7: Network and Sharing Center Won't Open

Network and Sharing Center Won't Open

I'm running Win7 64bit Home Premium on a Gateway NV55C laptop with an i5 Intel processor.

Yesterday my son had no problem accessing our wireless network (Windstream DSL), but today when I booted up not only was the laptop unable to auto connect to our network I can't open the Network and Sharing Center. When I try to open it I just get a spinning cursor and have shut it down with Task Manager.

I ran SuperAntiSpyware and removed adware and PUPs. Unfortunately, I can't run Malwarebytes. Not 100% sure why but the free version may need reinstalling after the premium trial was accidentally selected during the last scan.

I've never run into this problem and I'm not sure what to do.

Btw, I've started in safe mode and can't open the Network and Sharing Center in this mode either

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

I rebooted into safe mode again and was then able to use the function key to turn off wireless connectivity. Then I rebooted and my then turned connectivity back on and the issue resolved. I can open the Network and Sharing Center and have a normal internet connection.

Any thoughts on what might have caused this??

I would think you use the keyboard to turn off the adapter before you shutdown or hibernate the machine. The adapter is set to turn off to save power. The machine turns off the adapter, you disable the adapter with the keyboard, the machine when asked to shutdown or hibernate saves the state of the adapter as 0. When you boot or wake, machine looks at that status and like a sleeping employee, does nothing to change the written state of the adapter...that is my theory.
