Wake on LAN doesn't work in Windows 7?
I have a computer that I use as a media center. I had been running Vista Ultimate x64. Using this OS I was able to use WOL just fine. All I had to do was enable WOL in the BIOS and in the network card properties.
Against my better judgment I decided to try an upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate x64 as opposed to doing a clean install. I was actually very surprised that the upgrade went smoothly. Everything is working fine, except suddenly my WOL does not work. The OS upgrade obviously didn't change anything in the BIOS, so that leaves me to look at the network card settings.
What I found was somewhat odd. The network card was set to enable WOL using "magic packet and pattern." I set it simply to "magic packet" as this is how I had it on Vista. Unfortunately it did not help. From my reading about WOL, this leads me to believe that something about Windows 7 is not "setting" the network card to allow WOL upon shutdown. It might would work from standby, but that doesn't help me any.
My system is as follows:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
Asus P5W DH Deluxe
4GB Corsair DDR2-800
Nvidia 8800 GTS 320MB
The network card(s) on the motherboard are based on the Marvel Yukon chipset.
Any suggestions?
