Why should it take NetBIOS time to discover pcs? You change any settings and do a restart then it should be recognised, why is there a time factor?

I've had this problem since I installed a new hard drive in the laptop. That connects to Windows XP no problem, XP can't access my laptop when it could before the new hard drive in the laptop.

Does the Speccy links show anything?

Ok I've got Windows XP to connect to my Windows 7 laptop.

I make notes of every setting for future reference in a text file and saved it to both computers. After I checked settings after the new laptop hard drive.

    Network and Sharing Center

Turn off password protected sharing - selected when I checked it was now on selected.

I've checked and triple checked these settings.

How the hell can setting be changed on there own?

I know this is an old thread I made but its still the same problem.

I start the laptop up today and try and connect to my main computer ULTIMA-WARLORD to copy files over and it won't connect.

Windows diagnostic resets connection, still doesn't connect. It check your set for file and printer sharing, yes it always has been.

I look at my online connection and its shows both computers are connected. I unplug the Broadband WiFi and plug it back in and still no connection.

How can things happen on a startup today both computers connect all the time as I swap files over.

    The diagnostic report says:

    Issues found

Windows can't communicate with the device or resource (ULTIMA-WARLORD)Windows can't communicate with the device or resource (ULTIMA-WARLORD)

Windows Help and Support can provide more information about Windows Firewall.

I did a system restore back to 06/04/20 that didn't fix the problem.

    Any more suggestions please.

I did a system restore in Windows XP back to 06/04/20. When its restarted I checked the Network and it showed all the same shared folders as my laptop. I should have clicked on them at the time to make sure it was connected.

I clicked on them latter and it wouldn't connect. It said you don't have permission to access the resource check administrator or contact.

    Laptop Speccy today.

As I've said I I've checked the printer and file sharing and they are both set to share. Both in Home or Work and Public.

    As I've said previously.

Network Control Centre - Wireless Network Connection Status

    IPv4 Connectivity: Internet
    IPv6 Connectivity: No network access

    Now it shows.

Network Control Centre - Wireless Network Connection Status

    IPv4 Connectivity: Internet is ticked
    IPv6 Connectivity: is ticked

This stupid problem I've had for nearly a week. I have to copy files to a flash drive then copy them back.

I use Avast Pro which did an update a few dates ago. I checked the settings it showed File and Printer Sharing wasn't enabled so I enabled it and I still can't share files or folders.

This same setting isn't available on the Windows XP running the same Avast Pro. Its a stupid setting system.

Why the hell does Avast Pro have File and Printer Sharing option which you can enable or disable its an anti virus. It checks all files added to the drive.

    Any suggestions will be appreciated.

This is a pain in the arse problem I've had for 2 weeks. I copy files over to the main computer 20 times a day I have to use a flash drive.

As I've said Network and Sharing Center file and printer sharing is turn on for Home and Public, I've disabled Public it still doesn't find the main computer Windows XP SP3 in the Network on the desktop.

I've done another system restore back to 04/04/20. On the restart Avast pops up saying there is an update do you want to restart the computer, I select no bleeding wait until I switch off later.

I checked Network and Sharing Center it showed Avast firewall NDIS6 Helper ticked I unticked and restarted, still no access to the other computer.

Why the hell does Avast have firewall helper the standard firewall is turned on. I want back into Network and Sharing Center and uninstalled it, restart still no connection to the main computer.

Network Discovery is turn on for Home, I've even turned it on for Public that makes no difference.

I've search the forum for the same problems.

All my computers are on the same network but each one can't see others

    Nothing useful shows.

I make a text file on any changes I make and back it up on external drive and flash drive. I know every setting that works for every application so I don't forget.

The problem I can't understand is it work connect to the main computer one day which worked properly the next day it wouldn't connect.

I never install any application the last on was CCleaner 5.64.7613 on 24/03/20. I install the same on Windows XP it says I need Windows 7 or greater, more Piriform bull when they have made it free for many years.

I could do a rebuild when I did last year when the laptop hard drive packed up. That is not a big deal its the one application I use which installs in a few minutes then it takes 2 weeks to install all the different databases.

So I really need to sort this computer network connection.

This is a pain in the arse problem I've had for 2 weeks as I've said.

I did a format and a fresh install of Windows 7 32bit. I saved my text file of all the settings to the flash drive and the main computer.

I installed all the drivers and enabled the file and printer sharing in Network and Sharing Center.

It still won't connect to the main computer.

I checked remote desktop connection access not available
remote computer is not turned on the remote computer is not available on the network system
    remote settings
allow remote access connections to this computer - ticked

    advanced
allow this computer to be controlled remotely - ticked
invitations - set the maximum amount of time invitations can remain open 6 hours default
create invitations that can only be used from computers using Vista or later - unticked

    remote desktop
don't allow connections to this computer - ticked
allow connections from computers running any version of remote desktop (less secure)
allow connections from computers running remote desktop with network level authentication (more secure) ticked makes no difference

restart both computers still won't connect

    Speccy shows:

    Sharing and Discovery
    Network Discovery Enabled
    File and Printer Sharing Enabled
File and printer sharing service Enabled
    Simple File Sharing Enabled
    Administrative Shares Enabled

What the hell is wrong with the settings I've always used before?

    As I've said.

Client for Microsoft Networks - ticked allows you computer to access resources on a Microsoft network
Avast firewall NDIS6 helper - ticked - unticked Avast firewall NDIS6 helper
File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks - ticked allows other computers to access resources on your computer using Microsoft Network

I uninstalled Avast firewall NDIS6 helper previously that made no difference.

Why the hell does it have Avast firewall NDIS6 helper, the firewall is switched on and enabled.

This system is pissing me off.

I may as well put the crap Windows 8 64bit back in if I can't resolve this problem.

I know you can only go by what someone posts about a problem on the forum.

Ask me anything I will make a screendump picture and post that.

Oh the other crap thing is my BT router BTHub5-KGFP keeps disconnecting. I have to switch it off and wait 20 minutes before it connects.

This happens 3 or 4 times a day. which is total crap for electronics you switch it on and it should work.

The problem with COVID-19 is if you report this problem and they check, its connected ok.
