Can share files in subdirectories but not in the main directory

I've set up a drive on my laptop for sharing with Everyone on my home network. This works for files in subdirectories of that drive, but not for files in the main directory. For example, I can copy a file from a subdirectory - where it can be modified by another user on the network - to the main directory, whereupon I get the message "You need permission to perform this action" if I try to modify it as another user.

How can I get *all* files on the drive to be shared?

You need to check the NTFS permission for that folder and grant access Setting NTFS Permissions

I am terribly sorry if I posted this in the wrong place. I couln't really find a catagory that this could go under. This is the closest. I am cleaning out my HD, I am at the main directory and I know deleting certain files (such as C:\Windows) would screw up the system. There is tons of files in...
