    Extra user folder

I somehow have two user names: Mike's and Mikes. I don't need the one call Mike's. If I go to My Documents on Word or Excel, it goes to the Mike's folder instead of the Mikes folder. (Sorry, they are so similar). I think it relates to a network sharing I established but no longer need. How can I make it go to the correct folder? I tried disabling the network but that just lost my internet connection. (I am not real techy!). TIA. Mike

Go to the computer where the shared resource resides, and unshare it on that computer. This will make the shared resource unavailable.

As for the two user folders, which name does Windows think you are logging in on? Windows might be logging you in as "Mike's".

You could easily change the default My Documents folder. Open up a File Explorer window. In the left pane, right-click on the "My Documents" folder, and choose Properties. Click the Location tab, and enter the full path of the desired My Documents folder in the window, then click Apply. (I wouldn't let it move my files from the old to the new location; I prefer to do that manually.)

Thanks. Unfortunately, the "other" computer died, so I can't access it to unshare. In any case, I believe I have solved the problem with a lot of work. Actually, the files in the two My Docs folder are the same, except different dates. What would happen if I just deleted the My Docs folder I don't want? Or could I just delete the user name entirely from the Windows Explorer? I've been reluctant to do that.

If you go to the users applet you should be able to delete the old user - you could also select to place a copy of the user data on your desktop which would allow you to sort through the folders at your own pace (you could of course move it from the desktop until you are ready )

If you first make a backup copy of all of the files in the My Docs folder and all sub folders, then there would be no problem with deleting the My Docs folder. In this way, in case you inadvertently delete the files, you can get them back from the backup copy.

The other user was deleted, and I deleted the My Documents folder in user Mike's (the one I don't want). But if I call up a file, say Excel and do a Save As, it goes to the Mike's folder not Mikes. I guess I can just live with it, don't want to screw everything up. Thanks both of you for your replies.

If it's just office apps there is a possibility that you could manually change where the default location office uses is located.

Set a default working folder - Office Support

Hopefully might put you back in control
