Thanks garbanzo! I was getting the same problem on build 7022 and was pulling my hair out trying to debug it. Nothing appears in the event logs at all. Unsetting that fixed it straight away. Very strange.

well now, that significantly reduces the chances that this was a coincidence!

glad you got it sorted. i still have no idea why that worked, but i'm glad it did :)

I had the same problem ( IE won't connect, Yahoo Messenger the same, Google Earth the same... ).
The problem appeared when on my LAN was an IP conflict... After I resolved the conflict, I've reseted the router, the computer, and also the IE settings, but still the same. After long searches on the internet, I found this thread and now it works!

    Thanks Garbanzo!

    Same problem here

I've had this problem for over a month. Suddenly ie can't connect but firefox continues to work perfectly! I'm using a wireless connection.

The IE diagnostic reports that IE can't connect using HTTP HTTPS or FTP and I should check my firewall settings for these (ports 80, 443, and 21) but doesn't tell me what I should be checking for! Disabling the windows firewall has no effect either

Have you tried resting IE to default, that seems to work for some people.

Absolutely. No effect. I'd would have re-installed ie7 but having SP3 won't allow that (uninstalling ie). "Upgrading" to ie8 had no effect.

Sorry JMAC1 I don't think you are in the best place to asking these questions as this is a Windows 7 forum, maybe you can do some sort of repair install.

    Oops. Sorry. My bad.

Great site! I've toured around and will be back.

    Thanks for the suggestion though.

I have tried unchecking and rechecking that box several times. Still no effect. Any other ideas?
