Can't connect to internet - NDIS user mode I/O gone!
Once again I foolishly messed around in Task Manager, deleting processes I should have left alone - since I don't know what I'm doing and not everything that looks suspicious actually is.
So one of the things (no, I don't remember what it was) caused a warning to appear, saying Windows had incurred a fatal error and was preparing to shut down. (I'm paraphrasing to the best of my recollection.)
I had done and caused something like this in the recent past but was able to recover from it by pretty much authorizing every shitty thing that wanted to run. The internet connection was eventually restored but I never found out what the thing was I should have left alone. (I know, stupid, stupid, stupid.😔)
Now however I seem to have caused lasting damage in that things I am trying to restore aren't available for restoration.
WwanAutoconfig can't be started and gives me an Error 5.
And NDIS User protocol I/O is nowhere to be found!!!!!
I did a scannow (twice) and no corrupted files or missing files, every normal, according to that scan. I'm baffled.
The only thing I know for sure is that the shut down occurred after I deleted something in Services. It was one of the many things in Task Manager under Performance -> Networking -> Listening Ports that I eliminated. (One of those things that are supposedly Not Authorized/Not Restricted that love to bundle onto legitimate things and thereby can't be isolated. Or that's what it seems to me.)
So is there a way that I could have disrupted something that prevents the name NDIS from showing up where it's supposed to be? I did a search for it, nothing came up. I'm assuming it should be under the least of Local Services, right?
NDIS is one of the 4 services needed to get a wireless connection (according to Properties in WLAN), the other 3 having been restarted without problem.
Wondershare Application Service has been stopped (by me, I suppose) and can't be restarted because: "The system cannot find the file specified."
It did show in an event log that something happened to that file. Could this be the culprit for NDIS not showing anywhere? But why would scannow not find anything wrong?
Are there any Remote windows services that need to be enabled even if you never access our have someone else access your computer or network?
I'm in Task Manager -> Processes right now restarting everything that I had at some point stopped.
