Home Network: Which Ports must be open when no need to share files
I am still trying to tighten my firewalls etc, and when googling (or DDG'ing in my case) I noticed that any question related to network security automatically is answered with the assumption in mind that the person wants to maintain a sharing capability with the other computers in the house, like printers, files, whatever. With the result that answers are tailored toward that, skipping over the fact that some people do NOT want to share their darn files.
This is my case. I have already chosen Public over Home network, and I'm not part of this grid. I do of course share the internet connection.
So my question is, netbios should be able to me disabled and I should still be able to get online. But that is not the case somehow. Any idea why that would be?
I searched in vain so far for a straightforward list that indicates all the necessary ports that NEED to be open for a wireless internet connection WITHOUT interconnectedness to the other computers on the same network.
