Network fallen over

We have two computers running W7 and they are linked by a wired network, this stopped working in last few days. Error message saying that the name of the other computer was wrong. As the only thing we had done was updates I did a restore on my computer and then I could see my wife's. However, we found that each computer was holding only one restore point (I will adjust this). As she had updated Netgear there was no restore point to go back to prior to the Windows updates so I used "add and remove". This has driven two issues.


Firstly I managed to remove all updates but even though I have it set to not install updates, it keeps adding one security update in place of the one I have deleted i.e. I go back into the list and the one I am deleting has gone but a new one appears in its place (4462923 became 4457144 became 434900 became 438818).


Meanwhile, on her computer she still cannot see me.


I don't know whether the two issues are linked but am intrigued by this update ignoring my instructions and wonder if anyone has any thoughts?

Can you print her pc Via IP or name?
