Network Printer overwrites my screen when others print to it ?

I have a small home network:- 3 Win 7 PC, 1 Macbook, 4 Ipads, 4 phones, (we have some adult children in the house) mostly wifi'd through a Netgear CG3000V2 which is about to be replaced with an NBN upgrade. Our only printer, an Epson xp100 network printer is plugged into my Win 7 box due to logistics in the household and when anyone else prints to it, adobe or some other program overwrites my screen, usually when I am half way through typing a word. Can I set something to keep my work on top? or maybe something to keep the printing in the background.

You can change the printer settings to "print directly to the printer" for each of the others but I'm not sure that will fix the problem.

To do that, go to Control Panel, Printers. Select your printer and then select File, Properties. The setting is in the Advanced tab.

Wither 2, I changed to "print directly to the printer" on my computer but no success. Are you suggesting I change on the other computers and ipads as well? I don't know apple well, but I will look. I am awaiting a reply from Epson as well. My wife sent a photo to the printer today while I was in Thunderbird reading emails, firstly Adobe reader opens on my screen then the photo overwrites Reader, then the printer progress box appears then disappears. and the photo prints leaving my screen showing the photo, close that, then reader, close that to get back to emails. It is just annoying.

My intention was that you change that setting on the "others" computers. Sorry if I didn't make myself more clear. I would try it on one of the Windows computers first. Not sure this is going to be the solution.

Hi Wither 2 yes and no. After a couple of restarts of my box, my wifes ipad now prints direct to the printer, but my new galaxy A8 phone can find the printer but cannot print to it. I have not had time to look for the solution to that yet. The phone is only a week old. I will play with it later but mark the original problem as solved. Thanks for the help.

Just so I'm on the same page with you, changing that setting stopped the text on your screen when you printed from the iPad? What happens with the Windows systems?

Sorry Wither2 I have not been there yet. Other logistics getting in the way. Big changes happening in the house.

Well, I've been going through my saved e-mail notifications and ran across this one. Did you get it resolved?

    Hi Wither 2,
No not yet. I am just back an hour ago from visiting grandchildren in QLD.
The NBN update happened a week or so before we went away, and my WIFI and internet now fall over with monotonous regularity. Sometimes coming back of its own accord but mostly not. We have not spent the time yet trying to fix it due to wife and live-in grandkids being very sick with gastro bug between NBN install and going to QLD.
I will get to play with it shortly.
