Attention all networking/OpenVPN/third-party router firmware buffs

I recently deployed an OpenVPN in my router using ASUS Merlin firmware. I wanted to see if the port that the VPN uses was in fact exposed to the world. So I checked at Shodan, and I always check my WAN IP at Shodan and noting ever found. I even check Censys. I then went to GRC's Shields Up and probed the VPN port. It was reported as stealthed. I then ran my paid-for VPN connecting to a P2P capable server to use all 65,535 ports and used Zenmap (Nmap for Windows) and scanned the living crap out of all 65,535 ports of my WAN IP address and still nothing found. It's as if my VPN port doesn't exist yet I can make a connection to my VPN in the router with 4G/LTE connection with the OpenVPN App connecting to my router. Logic would dictate that the port is open in order to connect to it, but I just don't see an open port at all.

The only thing I can think of is that perhaps the port is port triggered or it's opened when you make a VPN connection somehow. And I tested this theory by establishing a VPN connection in my phone then testing my port again at Shields Up. Still said stealthed.

So does anyone have any idea why my home WAN IP address doesn't show an open port for my VPN?

When you connect to a port something has to answer you like a webserver if it's stealth it simply does answer ping etc so it appears it's not there it one responds to VPN requests
