#1 computer can't access #3 shares

#3 computer was set up recently with a clean installation..
I don't use a password.
All 3 computers are Win 7.

I used this guide:
Share Files and Printers between Windows 7 and XP

I can see the #3 shares on #1, but I get an error message when trying to open them.

I don't know if I should have set it up as "work network" or "home network." I remember when setting up my first 2 that there was something counter-intuitive.

Oddly, I CAN access shares on Computer #2.

Your image link is damaged, this one works: crochet hook sizes — Postimage.org

It says you do not have permission to access the MyJohnDoc share on \\JON.

When you connect to a share you are connecting as the user who is signed in on the PC you are connecting from. If that same user name is an account on the PC you are connecting to then the permissions you get are those of the account on the PC you are connecting to. If the account name you are signed in to #1 with exists on #2 but not on #3 then that could explain why you can only access shares on #2.

On the JON machine check the sharing permissions. If you are not that concerned about security then the simplest thing is to grant Everyone full control.

I'm using the same user name, Prize-02, in all 3 computers but it hasn't helped

I checked the settings of shared folders on Jon (#3) All the data folders on Drive D have the sharing symbol and so does Users\Public.
All the machines belong to "homegroup."

Back to #1 crochet hook sizes — Postimage.org

Of the 4 folders on #3, I can access, with #1, only MyJonDoc (the equivalent of My Documents,)
and Users, but not the Public User which I usually use for transferring files.

(NO, I DON"T know why they all say "crochet hook sizes" LOL.

There's something missing and I think I'll be embarrassed when I find it.

Well, the other thing that can restrict access is the ntfs permissions of the folder being shared.

I use workgroup sharing rather than homegroup so can't comment on that, but I wouldn't have thought it would be the problem.

Normally any folders in the user profile have special permmisions from folders above

Yes, just checked and the Users folder on Jon has full read-write permission for "Everyone." So I think the problem is in the HP.

All those folders have Full-Control-Change-Read permission on Jon.

Maybe it's just a bug in the system of #1.

Worked a little more on this today, following a query at this site to
Ultimate Troubleshooting Guide for Windows 7/8/10 HomeGroup Connection Issues

The Sharing Troubleshooter has told me I don't have permission to access those folders, and it can't identify the problem. I already knew that.

I've checked for IPV6.
steel cro hook sizes — Postimage.org (ignore the file name. It's copying it from somehere on my clipbaord program.)
Would that affect accessing shares?

I'm bumping this up. In summary, Computer #1 can see the shared folders in the other 2 machines, but can access only some of them.

I've narrowed down the problem. The network wants a password to join the homegroup. I do a lot of shifting files among the 3 machines, and I don't want a password. But it didn't ask me for a PW when I set up the other 2 machines.

If I can't do that, how do I change the group to a workgroup?
