    Printers and SNMP?

Okay, need a little help here. So the background is I am the Print Administrator for a major healthcare company with over 200 network printers located throughout the state. So the Enterprise Security team here has stated that SNMP is a NEED and a MUST in our environment. We are using mostly Xerox printers and a few Dell and HP's and 3 Epson Plotter Printers. We are also using 2 print servers that are using 2016 Server.

My question is and I have a need for an explanation as to why, on some printers when using the required community strings and enabling SNMP, it turns off the printer and it can't be printed to. The whole idea is to keep the printer running as if Network Access Control sees the printer using the standard "public" string or if SNMP is disabled, it locks the printer out from the network.

SO my dilemma is don't use SNMP strings and disable it and Network Access Control locks the printer down and renders it useless OR use it and then the printer suddenly goes OFFLINE..A no-win situation it appears.

Admin, please feel free to move this to the correct place since I wasn't sure where it should be.

I have no idea about SNMP usage with printers, but reading here, is it possible that you have different SNMP versions?

As I said, I don't know anything about SNMP with printers, but I'll share my Google page result in an effort to try and find a solution unless someone else here has a definitive answer.

You should be aware of a website called Shodan. It is probably what most hackers use when they want to find vulnerabilities.
