Everyone is just that everyone but there is a danger admin are part of the gorup so if you deny a folder etc from everyone admins cant get in either. If the router will give static IPs its a lot simpler.

Did you find the master browser the app often kicks network into life as well

Run this on all pcs and note which is Master browser its stand alone so you dont need to install http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/netbios_scanner.html

I ran the NetBScanner on all machines.

On all except one machine, it listed the same machine as Master Browser (not the machine I had hoped for)

I found one laptop that just said WORKGROUP, instead of our Workgroup name; and, on that machine, it listed itself and the other both as Master Browser.
I resolved this by joining it into our workgroup; once this was done, it no longer listed itself as Master Browser.

I would like to change our Master Browser to be my main machine.

I found this: How To Set Master Browser – Information And Tools – James Gravert Scroll down to Step 2a.

Is that a good route; or, is there a way that I can edit the registry and do this myself without involving 3rd party software ?

Of course, I would also need to make the machine that says it is Master Browser to not be MB.

For what it's worth, it seems like simply running that tool made everyone show up everywhere.

On each machine, a Windows Firewall warning dialogue popped up; I just clicked Cancel on each one as the information I was seeking seemed to all be there anyway.

Running the scanner often wakes everything up changing the MB there isnt any point its elected by other pc and if you change it on next election it could go back if you simply turn it off for 30 mins then run the scanner you should find something else has taken over

    Thanks.

By "turn it off" you mean Shut Down the machine ?

You guys have been a great big help in this endeavor.

Now, I aim to clean up so many confusing folders showing up, many the same thing and some irrelevant as nothing exists there anymore.
