Win7 PC visible on home network but not internet, How?

I have an older Windows 7 PC that I want to use as an internal Plex server. It will be connected to my network over ethernet. I want other devices on my network to be able to see it and stream from it, but I do not want the PC exposed or accessible to the internet. How do I set that up?

You give it a fixed IP but with no gateway its not 100% secure if other are on the net on the local network

Third-party router firmware like Asus Merlin, DD-WRT, etc will help with that. What kind of router do you have?

Another way is to use the Windows firewall. I don't use the Windows firewall, but it may have an option to block the Internet. A sure fire way of doing it would be to omit the DNS or change the DNS to some internal IP like 127.0.0.1. Could be 127.0.1.1, it doesn't matter. Omitting DNS just prevents name resolution though. A direct IP to IP can still be made across the Internet...

Peerblock can do it at the IPv4 level. If you're using IPv4 then Peerblock will do it. Add this to a deny list:

    Code:
    All:0.0.0.0-9.255.255.255
    All:11.0.0.0-172.15.255.255
    All:172.32.0.0-192.167.255.255
    All:192.169.0.0-223.255.255.255

You might be interested in Jellyfin... Jellyfin allows you to add M3U streams. I don't think Plex has that. site:github.com "m3u" - Google Search

Keep in mind that blocking the Internet may not be a good idea if you need a Plex update, retrieving library Info., etc..
