I'm running NordVPN now and the Network & Sharing Center shows Unidentified Public Network in addition
to my LAN Home Network.
(1) Is that normally how NordVPN shows up?
(2) That's making a problem with my Win 10 computer because now they're not on the same network - a requirement in Win 10 to share folders - so Win 10 blocks sharing its folders with the Win7 computer. When not using VPN on Win 7, and having only Home Network - the Win 7 computer does access the Win10 files.
depends on the Nordvpn setting.... it puts out a psuedo IP address
so unless your W10 comp knows what it is it will "reject" it as part of you home network

I too have been using NordVPN for a number of years. As you are on the internet, do you have their extension on your browser? They do protect your computer and you have a variety of items that you may accept by ticking the box. Feel free to contact them with any problems as they do answer quickly and politely.
