Gah I'm sorry....How do I set a static IP for the network adapter? Do I go to Network and Internet in the control panel or do I do that in the router set up?

Sorry, this is my weakest area of knowledge in terms of computers...

Edit: Okay, I went to the router set up and set it to static IP. I'll let you know if this helps!

You set a static ip in Network and Sharing center. Click local area connections. Click Properties box. Double click IPv4 line.

Okay well..do you still want me to keep the router settings as Dynamically receive from ISP? Or do I change the router to static as well (The option is available)

Also, my local area connection is disconnected because I am not on an ethernet cable, I am using wireless. So I went to properties of my wireless and doubled licked the IPv4 and selected "use the following IP addresses"

I then filled in the blanks with the IP addresses that were on the router page, but when I finished it said that there was already ac omputer with that same IP connected to the network...What did I do wrong?

Reset the router back to factory settings. The manual will tell you how to do this.

Then setup static ip address in Windows as I said above.

Okay, I put in the first two spaces and left the rest blank. Unless there are specific Ip's I need to put int he other fields as well?

I put in the IP I get when I view sites like whatsmyip.com

and I also put the subnet mask Ip to go along with it.

When I do this, it says that there is already another computer with that same IP on the network and it won't let me connect. Any ideas?

Well, I've entered some IP's int he slots. Things were sporadic at first, but I just altered a few of the numbers a bit..so we'll see.

I'll update if I continue to drop.

Update: Not even a minute after posting this I was dropped. Here are the IP's I used.
