Windows 7: PC Tools - Uninstall this if having network issues

The older version was for more advanced users. There were many pop ups, but you could turn them off, if you knew the program or site was legit.

The best thing about it was that you could control what applications were trying to access the Internet to phone home.

There was the ability to block them.

Well hmmm I never had a problem with file sharing. That was actually the part of my connection that worked fine.

The only issues I was having was with loading web pages and yahoo messenger.

Everything was fine up until about 8 hours of system uptime. About every 8 hours web pages would cease to load (all browsers) and yahoo messenger would stop working.

That was my problem.

I honestly never thought the firewall was causing the above. I had thought if it was a firewall issue the problem would exist 100% of the time. That and I've used PC Tools for years (on previous systems) and never had a problem.

Why would a firewall suddenly stop letting web pages load after allowing them to load literally 1 minute prior?

I thought the problem was either my cable modem, router, or NIC. Last week I swapped out the cable modem and the problem remained. I was actually about to purchase a new router before I stumbled on this.

I never in a million years thought PC Tools was my problem, and uninstalled it more in desperation than anything else.

It's typical for a third party program with a built in firewall to cause file sharing not to work. You would think that a firewall made for Windows 7 would at least be intuative enough to get past this problem. If it were me it's the first thing I would have got rid of.

The fact that a third party firewall was never mentioned in your earlier posts leaves me a bit confused.

Did you uninstall the Firewall and the connection went back to normal.

If, not how could you assume it;s the firewall. Sometimes posting on these forums I'll' end up with 30+ tabs open, That';s when web pages start to load slower.

I uninstalled PC Tools and as I write this I am at 14 hours uptime and counting.

My browsers stopped loading web pages as if there was no internet connection.

1 tab, 10, or 100. Totally stopped. I am 99.9% sure I have solved my problem.

PC Tools is also causing me an issue blocking me from my HDHomerun network tv tuner. Turning off the firewall allows me access, and enabling causes no connection. Adding exceptions in firewall rules has no effect, this is in Windows XP on an older pc.
I'll have to uninstall pc tools I guess.

Has anyone solved this issue? Or should I, by myself, take PC Tools on in a class-action lawsuit?

I am having the same severe issue, AFTER I uninstalled Spyware Doctor and all that garbage from PC Tools.

I was virus-infected at least three times after buying and installing PC Tools. The package was unable to detect the threats or, later, to remove the threats. I was more successful with the free tools in Windows 7. Worse, I had to restore my system twice (and then another big headache, reinstall programs!)

On November 9, 2010, I had it with Spyware Doctor. I uninstalled it in my Control Panel. The uninstall asked me to restart my PC in order to complete the removal of PC Tools. I restarted. That’s when the hell broke open! I was unable to find an Internet connection anymore! In one minute, I lost my Internet connection! The Internet connection does not exist anymore for all Internet applications, but one.

The 32-bit version of Internet Explorer does not recognize an Internet connection anymore. The same is true about Mozilla and Google Chrome. No other Internet application works any more: Skype, WS_FTP, etc. They all report that there is NO internet connection!

The thing is, the 64-bit version of Internet Explorer does work — but it’s the only Internet application that survived the PC Tools catastrophe!

I googled on “PC Tools Firewall Uninstall” and found similar problems. I tried to remove the Firewall in my Device Manager (Show Hidden Drivers) — but it is impossible. The PC Tools guys look like hardened criminals!

My OS is 64-bit Windows 7 Professional.

It appears that this is a problem specific to Windows 7 (64-bit). The Internet connection is recognized in Windows XP (32-bit). I have dual-boot Win 7 / Win XP.

PC Tools guys are still guilty as charged. They should have warned users that their product is incompatible with 64-bit Windows 7. Better still, Spyware Doctor should have not installed in 64-bit Windows 7! That’s common sense! And now, look what them PC Tools cowards do! They don’t even come publicly with the acknowledgement that they made a serious mistake and they will offer solutions ASAP. They hide in silence…
