PC Tools - Uninstall this if having network issues

If you search for my other posts you will notice I was having a network problem that I couldn't figure out.

I am 99.9% sure I have solved my issue.

The solution was to uninstall PC Tools. My issue now seems to be gone.

Please note that simply disabling PC Tools did not solve my problem.

I had to uninstall it. I am now using the Windows Firewall and my issue seems to have been resolved.

All the other trickery I tried to solve the problem didn't work, and now have put everything back that I changed that I shouldn't have had to change as a final test.

I am pretty confident all is going to be fine.

Were you using PC Tools Firewall Plus?

Yup, the latest free edition as available on Cnet.

I used it with my previous (Windows XP) system with no issues.

I am quite confident it doesn't play nice with Windows 7 for some reason.

Has this been discussed?

No, it plays OK, but truthfully I liked the older version better, but cannot locate it.

No trickery should be reqiured to get file sharing to work properly, everything I mentioned in earlier posts is standard procedure using the built in simple GUI for networking in Windows 7.

It's typical for a third party program with a built in firewall to cause file sharing not to work. You would think that a firewall made for Windows 7 would at least be intuative enough to get past this problem. If it were me it's the first thing I would have got rid of.

I lost track of his posts but I believe he was asking about how to get LAN networking to work correctly the other day.

The problem is that these third party firewalls are being installed before they get the LAN up and running which only adds to the confusion.

Doesn't Windows firewall have the same effect?

I recently had an issue with the latest version of PC Tools firewall not allowing a VPN client to work I tried manually setting permission to allow the VPN client I tried disabling the PC Tools firewall nothing I did would allow it through the firewall even when it prompted me the first time I used the VPN I clicked allow and remember had to uninstall it never had issue with older versions I was a bit frustrated.
