    Homegroup Issue

    Hello,
Hopefully this will be simple for someone to answer. Very new to my computer. I am running Windows 7 Pro on my Samsung Netbook and trying to connect to my wireless network at home. Under the homegroup settings I must have chosen to leave the homegroup because it shows under network sharing that "this computer can't connect to a homegroup". Can I reverse this? Please help.

Are you having trouble connecting to the wireless network (ie: can't get online at all), or are you having trouble configuring homegroups with your Windows 7 computers (notice I said computers - homegroups are only for multiple Windows 7 computers)?

Thank you so much for responding! I solved my issue of being able to connect to the homegroups and I have troubleshooted the issue far enough now to know this...

I am connected to my wireless network at home, but it is telling me that the DNS server is not responding. So even though I am connected I can't go online. Have you ever had this issue before?

    Thanks again, Robert.

What is telling you the DNS server is unavailable? Are you connected via a wireless router? Are other computers in your home using wireless, or are they all wired? Do any of them have DNS problems?

Thanks! I do have a router connected in my house. I have an iMac and a Toshiba laptop both running perfectly on it. The Samsung netbook however will only connect online when I plug in the ethernet cable. Like I said earlier, it reads that it is connected to my router on my wireless network, but unless the ethernet is plugged in, it will not go online. I hope I am explaining clearly. It is frustrating me. Thanks again so much for reading. Robert.

Did you install Windows 7 on your netbook, or did it come with it installed?

    Hey,
The netbook came with XP and I upgraded it to 7. After several run-throughs of diagnostic tests, it seems to have been fixed. The netbook is currently online without ethernet attached. One interesting sidenote, I noticed that I had to download Windows Live Mail after upgrading to 7. Thought that was odd and that mail would have come with the upgrade.

What wireless security protocol is the router using? Has your laptop passworded in to that correctly?

I believe it WPA2 Personal. Is that proper?

Sure, as long as your wireless adapter offered up the password for authentication at setup. Otherwise you won't get a wireless connection ...
