Extremely slow copying speed over the network

    Hi,

I have 32 bit Windows 7 enterprise edition installed on DELL Inspiron 1525 with 4 GB RAM.
I am facing the issue of extremely slow copying speeds. The copying speed hovers around 4-5 Kbps.

Other XP machines are able to do this real fast. I updated from Vista, believing this problem would've been solved in Windows 7... but this is a big disappointment... for all the hype created.

Is there a solution to this...

Thanks in advance for any help that can be provided.

Please try to answer as many as these as you can.

    • Location on network (LAN, other LAN, Internet)
    • What type of connection between the machines? (both wifi, one wifi other 100mbit)
    • What type of machine are you copying to? (NAS, Mac, Windows, Linux)
    • What protocal are you using? (FTP, Samba/Windows share)
    • By copying do you mean from two network locations? or from your machine to network? or from network to your machine?
      how is internet download speeds?

i think this has something to do with the new version of SMB but im not sure... that might of been fixed allready

    1. I'm trying to copy a file from a file server in the local LAN to my own machine.. again in the same local LAN
    2. It's a standard 100MB LAN connectivity
    3. The File server is a Windows XP machine, while my laptop is a 32 bit Windows 7 enterprise edition
    4. standard windows share
    5. I hope the above answers this part as well

    Any ideas?

Follow this guide from Dell about how to obtain Windows 7 drivers for your inspiron 1525. Using the Vista drivers may work but there are limited Windows 7 drivers for your Dell.
