    Hi computersplus.

The Gigabyte motherboard is model name GA-P55M-UD2. It also says "Ultra Durable 3" on the box it came in and "Windows 7 support".

ok so your Realtek 8185 802.11b/g Wireless card is not working right with the Netgear WPN824v2 router which is b/g/n

first thing i would do is shut down all PC's unplug power from the modem and the router the plug power back into the modem and wait for lights to become stable then plug power back into the router wait for lights to settle down then restart all PC's one by one and check connectivity you would be surprised what a full reboot of all equipment will do

next i would try either turning off the N radio all together on the router or configure it to run on 2.4 Ghz as apposed to 5 Ghz and make sure to manually set wireless channel on router and card as auto channel select does not always work

    post back on results

    Hi computerplus.

Well, I have an Zyxel router but never mind that. I will try a total rebout tomorrow (now it is half past 2 at night here) but I did try that before. What I have not tried is the disabling of "the N radio" as you said. I think the router is already running on the 2.4 Ghz frequency range but I will check that too.

2.4 Ghz would be standard for the b/g radio but a lot of N routers can do 2.4 or 5 on the N band there have been issues when the N is running at 5 Ghz causing issue with the 2.4 band for some reason

Bruce if you used the setup CD that came with that router on the machine you are having issue with please uninstall all netgear software and just load the driver

I had a mate with a brand new laptop. He had a similar problem in that you could see the network and every now and then it would connect but the connection would not last long. My laptop worked perfectly on with his wireless access point.
Told him to send the laptop back and get a replacement as it was obviously the network card in his laptop due to mine working and his not when they were basically the same. He got the replacement in a week and it worked perfectly since.
