    Homegroup x64 to x32 issues

Just wondering if anyone else is having issues connecting their x64 machine to x32 homegroups.

I have two x32 machines homegrouping wirelessly with each other over the same router network (and workgroup) as my x64 computer - which cannot connect to their homegroup.

I've been around and around this; checking services, leaving joining etc to no avail. The 32-bit machines connect seamlessly the way its supposed to work, and the 64-bit machine is invited to join, but cannot. It can access all the others just fine through typical (workgroup) networking.

Still chipping away at this ... I changed the computer name on one of the (x32) Homegroup computers, but the x64 machine is still prompted to join the homegroup on the old computer name.

Where might this information be stored so that it can be deleted?

I've been using Homegroup from my 64 bit machine to my 32 bit ones with zero problems Roger so I don't think that is the problem.

At least you have Homegroup working with the 32 bit machines, it wasn't working at all for you before I didn't think. No doubt it's just one setting out of place that is keeping this from working. I'm not sure where that setting might be.

You could try leaving the Homegroup from both the 32 bit machines then create a new Homegroup on the 64 bit machine and go from there. I knew you wouldn't give up on this Roger LOL.

    Hi Roger,

Can't tell if this person was having quite the same experience you are, but have a look for yourself: Can't Get Win 7 Homegroup to Work Properly

Do any of your machines have identical computer names? If so, try changing one and rejoining the homegroup. Other than that, I'm stumped!

    Good luck,

No they don't. Perversely, my main rig (spec) keeps asking to join the homegroup of a machine that no longer exists (at least by that name)! I don't know where it is storing that information - several boots and reg-cleans later. Workgroup recognizes all the current names.

Until I can shake that off, I can't receive an invite from the other machines.

oh heck no, chev. I'll chase this all the way to Windows 8!

I'm converting the last 2 (of 5) machines from XP to 7 over the next few days, so I'll be revisiting the issue.
