I've gotten replies from Linksys and D-Link regarding routers and Windows 7. Both inform me that the OS does not matter. I have been told this on a couple other sites also. So, with the router eliminated as the problem, I am still looking for a solution to this problem. It would be nice to transfer files quicker. Any thoughts?

Mike

I prefer to keep things wired in my house.
Actually your quite mistaken, there are plenty of wired routers on that list, I'm not sure when on earth you got that idea from but you are incorrect.

However your router certainly isn't one of the routers on the compatiblity list which I have found to be very accurate. I like wired also when ever possible.

They are completely and absolutely incorrect, in fact they put out firmware updates for compatiblity all the time so I have no idea why they would make up lies like that one.
Typical misinformed customer service if you ask me.

In fact there are pages and pages, and no less than hundreds of incompatible hardware, routers, adaptors you name it, on Windows 7 compablity list. Those pages leave no doubt about this, examples below.

To further prove my point, I can show you about a hundred posts just like the one linked too below.

But if you still don't think it's the router then just test that theory out by plugging in directly to the modem. If it magically works then it's the router.

Ok, I have the same problem with an SMC router.
I have a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pi2550 with Windows 7 and another desktop PC with Windows Xp. When I want try to copy from Xp to Win7 under 7, then the speed would go up to a maximum of 140kb/s indifferent to how I connect to the router with the laptop. Even if the connection wired or wireless the speed remains the same, but the internet connection goes up to 15 - 17 megabits as it should be and how it goes up under XP to.
I wrote a lot of pages on this forum and some say there is a driver problem but then the internet connection why working properly?

If anyone has an Idea it is greatly apreciated. TNX.

I set the NIC cards @ 100mbs and turned Remote Differential Compression off in Windows 7 Features and that helped.
