I'm just trying to make this easier on you and I do realize that purchasing new hardware is a pain but in this case it's the easiest way to solve the problem. I can check the comptablity list for your router but if it doesn't have a specific firmware update just for Windows 7 it's unlikely to work properly for you.

    Compatibility List

Compatibility list are not gospel that just means that those items have been tested and do work if an item has not been tested to make it on the list that does not mean it won't work.

In case you were wondering, here is what happens when people follow my lead on replacing old incompatible hardware. It's been one after the other for months like this guys.
