Wireless doesn't turn on or connect!?!?

I hope someone can help me on this! I have a Asus g51 laptop with a Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN network adapter. I received the laptop with windows vista home premium 64bit and I was eligible for the free upgrade to windows 7. I installed windows 7 and I wasn't able to connect to my wireless route nor to any other router. I have a switch on my laptop to turn the WiFi on and off but either way I turn the switch it says Wireless LAN off. I can connect to the internet by plugging in my Ethernet cable to my laptop but not by wireless. My wireless worked fine before the upgrade so I don't know what to do. I've updated drivers, I've tried disabling and re-enabling the network driver, I've restarted the router, I've tried a "hard" restart on my laptop (take the battery out for a period of time). Nothing has work. Anyone have a solution? Your help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

    Hi and Welcome to SF,

W7 comes with built in utility that will get you connected to your wireless network in no time. All there is to do is make sure your wireless network is setup correctly. If authentication via WEP/WPA then you will only need to provide the WEP/WPA key for w7 to log in.

At first i would disconnect the switch, just have the laptop looking for your wireless network. If wifi is turned on, this should not be an issue. Does it pick up your wireless network?

You might get some help from my thread 2 days ago. It turned out my router was not compatible with 64 bit Windows 7. I had to get a new router. (Linksys WRT160N worked great)

New Laptop can't connect to WRT54GS

Go to the compatibility list and find your router. See what MS has to say. You may have the same problem I had. I might be able to save you 12 hours of work like I had to go through.

Thanks for the reply's. I tried to turn the switch on and off but like I said before. When the switch is off it says "Wireless LAN off" and when I turn the switch on it says "Wireless LAN off" Its not turning on at all.

I thought maybe my router isn't compatible with windows 7. But before windows 7 was installed I was able to pick up a few surrounding routers from my neighbors and now I don't pick up any signal from them or my own. Idk if a new router would do the trick or not. The router I have is quite old though. Probably 5-6 year old. Its a Belkin G Router 2.4GHz 802.11g Wireless.

Look up your router on this site. It may shed some light on your situation. It sounds like my situation. Especially if you're running 64 bit. My router IS compatible with 32 but not 64.....

    Good luck

So what if it is my router? What about the couple routers I was picking up from my neighbors. There routers not compatible too? Seems unlikely to me.

Your Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN network adapter does have Windows 7 support so that probably isn't the problem. As Nate mentioned before, his router would not work on his 64 bit system and the Windows 7 compatiblity page showed this to be true. He simply replaced the router problem solved.

The only way to know for sure if your Belkin router is compatible is to give me the exact model and version number from your Belkin router so I can check at on the compatibility list for Windows 7. There could also be a firmware update that will get you up and running with Windows 7.

Okay well I just picked up a new router that's compatible with windows 7. Linksys WRT54GS2 and hooked it all up and downloaded the software and nothing happened. I couldn't connect to the internet via wireless or by direct cable. Had to revert back the the belkin and direct cable to connect back to the internet. Idk whats going on. I have another laptop and that couldn't connect to the new linksys one either. But that one can connect to the belkin one just fine.
