Hi im new here at forum.. but i have many experiences in other forums

yesterday i buy a wireless broadband router - 4 ports
and i encounter some change.. i dont know if it is a problem with the settings or it is normal...

questions:

1. My desktop computer is connected to the router through Lan. when i start the computer. my comp identifies the network for 2 mins.. it is normal? or i need to change settings or the router?

2. i cannot connect to my other PC that is also connected in Lan.. see ScreenSHoot below

1) Is it really 2mins or just a figure, normally the acquiring of network address should be around 10 sec.

2) So your other machine is also attaching to the router, in this case you only have 3 ports left, right? Try the other ports.

Have you tried with another cable? I think it could be the router ports.

Have you made any shares on the laptop to be shared out. Check the permissions on the share.

I wouldnt think so but then again i don't have the Os that you do.

The principle of file sharing whether through cable or over a network is the same. If you can ping it, than you should be able to file share, at a minimum via mapping to shares from one machine to another. Here, just need to create the shares and allow appropriate permission.

I would think the error u get when u click on the pc in Network, is cos the shares are not correctly created, no shares, or you haven't enabled file sharing/remote access on that machine.

Ok I believe I figured it out from searching the internet. Some one said the "TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper" was not started so I went under computer management and service and it was there and not started I started it and I can now get on the other computers. I post this in my own thread and it works now.
