Well not really unless you might need the support. It's a license agreement is all and the wording was changed this year to reflect the new rules.

I would personally still go with OEM.

Partial Necromancy, FTW!

I am about to order the OEM windows 7 x64 Home Premium, and had one more question. Since it's a clean install (after backing up my data to an external storage device...) will it essentially install in the exact same way as retail would? Will I be able to use THIS as a basic guideline?

There is a turtorial for this here on the forum. You need to do a couple of extra things to get a clean install from the upgrade CD but it's easy.

But the OEM version as well?

Edit: if I had vista on the computer originally, and the sticker containing the OEM product key on the side (it is an HP), could I Still use the method described in the link you posted to clean install from the upgrade disk? Or is that now void since i installed windows 7 dual booting with vista, then deleted the vista partition? That/the situation is a tad confusing, if you don't know what I'm trying say, just ask.

Edit 2: note that the "clean install" at this point would be from windows 7 to windows 7. I can recover my system to factory installation(vista) using the hp recovery partition if needed, but I'm not sure if it'd still be activated, or how much more it would muck up the point of a clean install with stray files from the first vista, current windows 7 RTM, and the "new" vista I might be going back to, depending onyour answer to the question:

Maybe this clean install tutorial will help you answer some of those questions. No need to worrie about the legal aspects as you have a copy of Vista which is paid for already which qualifies you to legally use the Upgrade CD.

With the clean install you may not be able to use Vista but you can access the files in a folder that Windows will create called "Vista Old" which you can easily delate later to free up harddrive space.

This tutorial will answer most of the other questions I think.
