sharing W7 with an XP machine

I think I have this (almost) working. I want to share my main computer W7 D drive with a laptop that is older and can't upgrade which is XP. I have got the XP seeing the D drive on the main computer, but when I try to access it I get the following.

"\\Familydesktop\d is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permision.

Ok so on the Familydesktop (W7) this is what I setup.
    • under computer I choose the "D" drive right click.
    • I choose "share with", advanced sharing, and the button Advanced sharing.
    • checked the box for "share this folder"
    • Permission "Everyone"
    • Then when I get out of the advanced sharing window, back to the network window I choose "network & sharing center"
    • turned off "Password protect sharing".
I have double checked this setup.

    On the old laptop (XP)
    • I went to properties of "my computer", Computer Name.
    • Chose "Change" and changed from mshome to workgroup.
    • restarted computer
    • Control panel.. "Network setup wizard"
      • checked box to "Ignore disconnected hardware"
      • chose Residential Gateway
      • made sure computer name was ok, and changed from mshome to workgroup.
      • Turned on file/printer sharing.
      • then finished out of this wizard.
Can anyone see where else I need permissions set?
