Remote Desktop Login & Password box Gray

Upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 and found out I can't use Remote Desktop to my office (according to my computer guy the server is a windows server 2003 x64 r2). It worked fine prior to this and my computer name is approved for access on the server.

I am able to open up the connection via IP address but when the login screen pops up for the password it is all gray and in top left corner of the login box I can read Microsoft Windows X6 in small letters.

According to my computer guy he can see me popping into the server so I am connected to some extent but it will not allow me to enter my name and password. It will eventually time me out for not entering password. I tried entering password even though I didn't see anything and it did not work.

We tried changing some of the viewing settings and we verified port 3389 is open (which makes sense since he can see me on the server).

    Any ideas?

My computer guy is stumped and has not encountered this problem with 7 before.

FYI, I know my way around a machine a little but I am not a high tech guy.

Thanks and please let me know if you have any questions.

    Me too!

I'm having the exact same issue. Upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 Pro. Remove Desktop worked at first but today just stopped working - gray screen that looks OK but no login box.

Please help, I remote to servers all the time and really need this fixed. Thanks in advance!

    Fixed?

OK, I got it working again, but I'm not sure how. I rebooted and went into "Safe Mode with Networking". It worked fine from there. Then after rebooting normally it seemed that all was well again.

One thing I noticed after going into safe mode and back to normal is that the remote desktop window showed up on my primary monitor (I have two monitors). When it wasn't working, the remote window would show up on my secondary monitor and would hang when I tried to move it to the primary.

I got it working by downloading a free 15 day trial of

    http://terminalserviceplus.com/tsplus.net/downloads.html

as I was planning to purchase the program. I got the download working and went back to the RDP with 7 and it started working (I could see the login box, enter name and password and get in).

Not a perfect fix but a fix none the less.

    Good luck.
