    See but can't access

I have 2 Dell laptops and 1 Dell desktop in my network, all running Win 7. I can see all 3 from my laptop, and I can access the desktop from it, but I cannot access my wife's laptop. I get the "you do not have permission, contact your network administrator" message. I AM the network administrator. My wife gets the same message if she tries to access my laptop. If my wife tries to access the desktop she is asked for a user-name and password, which we do not know as I don't remember setting one. All 3 computers can access our network printer and the internet.

Is it possible to reset the network so that all 3 computers can access each other? I am not a computer expert, just a retired train driver, so simple language please.

Welcome to the forum. You need to share a folder dont use any in the user profile as its more complicated. You set the permission on the share to everyone with that you can often then only see you then need to set the NTFS permissions on the folders your sharing to everyone. When the desktop asks for username /password its asking for the one you login to that pc with.

The simple way to this is to create and account on the pc your connecting to as an admin with same username password as you login to your pc as by default windows will pass that so it is less problems doing it that way
