High Latency since Windows 7

Well, I just recently upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate, I've been loving how sleek and quick it has been until today...

I am a WoW player and also use the internet like any other user and I've been experiencing EXTREMELY high lag spikes at random times. I'll be running along in WoW with my latency around 60ms then I'll get a spike to 4200+ and disconnect...

Also, I'll be browsing without any problems, everything running smooth and all of a sudden I lag out and a page I may be trying to load will continue attempting to load with no success until I exit my browser and restart, than it will go back to normal browsing speeds until the next spike...

My roomate is playing on the same network (only using vista) and he NEVER has any latency issues...

Any thoughts? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Assuming you have the latest drivers for you HP pavillion already installed?

What kind of router are you using, wired or wirless, brand model and version would be helpful.

Have you tried connecting directly to the modem to see if the connection improves at all?
That is one easy way to tell if it's a router firmware or compatiblity problem or not.

I have my drivers up to date yes, and I'm currently using a wired connection and a Belkin Wireless G f6d4230-4 v.1 router.

I haven't tried connecting directly to my modem quite yet because my roommate is currently online although if that is suggested I will try that also. I also tried reinstalling firmware for the router but when I try to navigate to http://192.168.2.1 my browser says that the page cannot be found...

The router looks good on the compatiblity chart so no problems there I wouldn't think. That tends to point to a wireless adaptor driver problem of some sort.

I'm looking at the HP site but there doesn't look to be any Windows 7 specific drivers for your model HP.

Try going through the HP Windows 7 update guide by clicking on the link below and see what it finds for you.

You can also try updating from Device Manager by finding the Network Adaptor then right click and have it update for you. Doesn't always find the best driver though but sometimes it works. If not try the link below.

Scroll down to where it says "Wireless Drivers" for Windows 7 and see what you can find there. The Broadcom and the Intel drivers there may work for you.

You said everything has been working properly until "today"?
Did you install any new software / drivers / hardware / ...etc
last night or this morning prior to the issue starting?

Check for the last updates your machine might have pulled down from windows.
Add/Remove Programs [check box that says "show updates"]

check the dates.

Yeah, I installed Windows 7 last night, everything about Windows 7 has been great, except the latency issue. I also installed WoW but havent been able to be online for more than 10min without a lag spike followed by a disconnect.

These connection lag-drop out issues are very common when there are Network adaptor or router issues. I'm also picking up that you performed an upgrade installation from Vista I assume? That may or may not also cause problems for you.

You should be able to access the Belkin router page using 192.168.2.1 without any problems. So that could be a problem also. You may need to reset the modem and router so it assigns the new IP's correctly. Just unplug them both for awhile or you can use the reset buttons starting with the modem.

might sound silly but i've seen this issue be corrected by simply right clicking the wow icon and running as administrator.... yes, even if you're the ONLY ACCOUNT... yada yada.

The problem is obviously not limited to WOW.
