Windows 7 doesn't like my Linsys Router

Hope someone can point me in right direction! My home network is comprised of 3 computers. #1 (main-desktop) is hardwired to Linksys WRT54G v8 router which is also gateway to internet. #2 (desktop) and #3 (laptop) are wireless connectivity to router. All 3 machines had XP OS until recently when I replaced #1 PC with an HP e9200 desktop with Windows 7 Home Premium OS and is hardwired to the router. I ran Linksys setup CD on new PC and can connect to router by typing 192.168.1.1 in the Internet Explorer address bar and able to make any setup changes, etc. Also able to connect to internet and sometimes "see" other wireless machines, but all functionality is short-lived! I soon loose my connection between #1 (W7) machine and router. I will reboot machine and lag on to my desktop but a blue screen pops up so quickly I can't read it, then machine reboots with safe mode options, etc. I've attempted this several times making sure I'm following instructions correctly with no success. Right now I'm bypassing router so I can connect to internet. I'm reading so much out there about similar problems from people who seem to know much more than me about this subject. I'm beginning to wonder if I'm fighting a loosing battle. . Thanks to anyone who can help!!!!!

first off it is 192.168.0.1

since this is a new machine simply wipe it and reinstall windows from the disk hp gave. sometime it is faster to do this than try to track down a network problem.

My error. I knew that, just typed it wrong.

Just reading another thread, I set router security to WPA-Personal, if that matters

at least you knew you got it wrong. i had someone earlier who i think stills believes it is 192.168.4.1

Are you saying I should reinstall my OS????? First, HP didn't "give" me a disc. They have a re-format partition on the harddrive. Second, id I did that, would I have to reinstall all my software again?

the few times i have had problems with my router it was due to changing isp's. the only way i could get it fixed was to reinstall the os. now your getting intermittent internet access so i would check with someone who has more networking knowledge than i do. i would look in here first then if you cannot find anything post a new threat their. i wish i could be of more, however networking has never been my strong suite. let me know if you get it fixed.

Thanks for your help. I just called HP support. The tech (Karen) took a few minutes to fully understand the problem and then had me go to Microsoft.com > Windows 7 Compatibility Center web site. You can check out software AND hardware. Surprisingly I learned that my router is not YET compatible with Windows 7 64 bit. It is OK with 32 bit. My next move is to check with Linksys to see if they have new firmware to download. Now at least I have an answer! I've been to the Compatibilty Center web site before but only to check on some of my software apps. Didn't realize they address hardware as well. Again, thanks and Happy New Year. Even though I'm from Ohio, I'm pulling for Alabama tonight!!!

I have been using a WRT54G with Windows 7 64-bit since the day 7 was released to the public with no problems. Mine is a version 4 which I would guess is older than yours.

I don't know if you are aware of this, but you won't be able to use Homegroup with W7 since you don't have all W7 OS's on your network. Don't know if that's the way you tried to set it up or not. You can use the "old style" Home Network the same way you set up with XP.

I will help all I can, but I usually can't remember how I did it when I get mine set up. :)
