Problems with ICS on a Windows 7/XP network

Hi yall, I am attempting to set up an ICS on my home network. The host computer's OS is Windows 7 but the rest of the computer's OS's are Windows XP. I have an USB modem through Verizon that I use to connect to the internet as there is no better way to connect where I live.

I have tried setting up ICS on the host machine and I am unable to get it to share the connection with the rest of the computers on the network. I can get file sharing and everything else I can think of to work but not ICS. I have tried searching through other forum posts on the same topic but cannot resolve my problem not matter what I try. If you guys have any ideas that might help please enlighten me. I thank you all in advance for your assistance.

I'm sure you have already tried using this setting to enable ICS? Right click on the adaptor then choose properties then sharing. Put a check then hit OK to enable ICS.

I think I did it right here's what it looks like...

It appears that you have the option checked so it should be working. You might want to check the third one for the dial up access. And the other place where it says "settings" may need some attention. I havn't tested this on my own system but others have used ICS and it seems to be working for most of them.

Okay, I have ticked the box for the dial up option and it still does not work. Also the settings section is for if you are hosting services on the host computer that you would like the rest of the network to use. FTP, POP3, Telnet, etc. I doubted that would help but I tried enabling them as well and it didn't make it work either.

Okay when do ICS... its fun. I haven't done it in a while I think the last time was when I was in iraq but they rip all of us off anyways.


When you do ICS, make sure that the NIC card you will be using to share the line has 192.168.0.1 in the IP Address becuase that is what we are going to be using as the gateway


then go to another computer and set that computers IP address up as follows

IP: 192.168.0.2

Subnet: 255.255.255.0

Gateway: 192.168.0.1

DNS: 192.168.0.1

DNS 2: the dns number you get from verizon
if you go to cmd
then ipconfig /all
it will give you the dns

see if that works

This is how you really get complex with it:

INTERNET:
You have the internet coming in from Verizon. Make sure you got a good connection coming in to the desktop. I am sure you got a NIC card already built into the desktop.

ROUTER:
Get yourself a cheap router and pt it next to your desktop or away from any 2.4 ghz. If its cheap then more than likely it is 2.4.

You will use ICS on the desktop and run the ICS line into the routers WAN port and give the router internet.

Then distribute the internet to all your wireless communication devices.... Yah! me

If you want the configuration... that will be 20 dollars please...
