Windows 7 Not connecting to Wireless network HELP!

Ok, i've read near enough every post I can find on this topic but with no help. Just got my PC today (Desktop) and am typing this on my laptop which is connecting to the Wireless network.

Here's what error i'm receiving "The computer currently has limited connectivity to "Wireless network name""
It only every see's limited access and I havent had one succesful connection.

Here's a list of what i've tried;

- Installed a new Wireless card as Desktop did not come with one, the drivers have been fully checked and are up to date according to Windows 7.
- Refreshed DNS, however, this error came up "An error occurred when renewing the interface "Wireless connection 2" : Unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out. No operation can be performed on Local Area Connection while it has it's media disconnected"
- I live in a student house and we previously all had problems with our network and our vista laptop, we all had to disable ipv6 and I had to disable uPnP in router settings.

Router is a Netgear WGR614v9.
Wireless card is a Sweex 54 MBPS wireless card.
And Device manager displays this as "Realtek 8185 Extensible 80.11b/g Wireless Device"
With "Realtek PCIe GBE Family controller" underneath.

AIO welcome

a couple of things you can try to narrow down what it can be. I assume since IPv6 is disabled you are NOT using 'homegroup'. hoomegroup needs IPv6.

now type ipconfig /flushdns followed by ipconfig /renew. does this help?
run ipconfig /all use the snipping tool (type snipping tool in search to make a screen shot of the output.

try pinging msn.com

Your router is compatible and should be working for you without any problems.

That happens when i try to flush dns!

I havent touched ipv6 on Windows 7, so not sure how i'd access the settings to activate again? My laptop is vista where i initially did it!

"Media disconnected" seems to be the recurring theme.

You should reset the router, link for that is in my first post. Be sure and use the correct port on the router for the WAN connection. I'm not sure what the media disconnected problem is but most of those problems can be taken care of by resetting the router.

The Wireless card is connected properly as far as i'm aware, it's in through the PCI slot in my PC! Straight into the mother board!

Yes but the router isn't seeing it as connected which is a problem. When routers get like this there isn't much point in messing with settings. A simple reset will allow for connections that actually work = easy way to fix problem.

The router has been reset a number of times, still not luck.
If my wireless card wasnt connected why am I still seeing wireless networks and connected with limited access? Surely I wouldn't be able to even see any? Or is this just an awful way of thinking
