Yes it's more secure also. Seems like the other machines need to all be on the same type of Network as he is I agree with that. If the other machines are using the Workgroup I would think that Nate would need to be part of the same Workgroup.

I deleted the network "unidentified" (the one here....I don't want to delete the guy's home network) and it STILL comes up as "public" when I plug back in. I think you could be right C+...I just cannot get it changed. I am trying to dispatch trucks and do this at the same time is my problem. I will keep trying.

Yea....i'm still on a "public" profile. I need to change that back to work or preferably home

Now when I do this, the network is not there to delete. I deleted it and when I plug the cable back in, it it "public" by default

I guess the question is....how do I change the profile default? or even the 'current" profile?

Network access but no internet-step1.jpg

Mine says "unidentified network" and under that it says "public network" and it's not a link

This is unbelievable that a "guru" can't connect to the internet.....wow

In that case try typing "set net" into the start/search then choose "set up a connection or network". You will have some choices on the type of network you want to set up. It might work from there. One of those choices should give you the option to join the local network or Workgroup.

I gave up. I left directions for the owner to do what I was going to do. (install MSE) It's not hard, but he does not feel comfortable.

Thanks for the help

Hopefully he will be able to connect at home. I think it was me choosing "public" when I started and not being able to change it back to "work or home"
