Windows 7 Ultimate

Ok I tried the HP Tech support one last time. The one thing different that they did suggest was to turn off IPv6 in my network settings. I restarded the laptop and for now it seems to working good. I am crossing my fingers but I guess we'll see in the next day or two if this lasts I've thought other fixes worked but they only did so temporarily.

Can anyone elaborate why turning this option off could help?

Windows 7 Ultimate

Just a quick update on the internet problems and where I am right now.

I decided to try and put windows 7 home back on to see if it fixes things.

So, i went through the entire process and I was still having problems. So I put Windows 7 Ultimate back on as I like it a lot better than Home and I didn't like all the crapware that came with the laptop when I recovered the laptop to it's factory settings. So I decided to play with the channel settings on my router and after a few tries I switched to Channel 2 and whala!! my internet has been working great (knock on wood). HP support didn't even frikkin suggest that and wanted me to send the laptop in to them. I am just glad I found a workaround.

Thanks for all your help!!

PS One weird thing i am getting really frustrated about is with AIM and the HP advisor software. These two programs have default settings to run automatically upon boot. So, I went in to the each of the programs settings and turned the option off for. I also removed them from startup under MSCONFIG.

No matter what I've done every time I restart my laptop the two programs run automatically and the option to run on boot in their settings is turned back on. I've even deleted them from the registry and they still comeback upon reboot. I got really fed up and just uninstalled the programs. Any thoughts on this??

I can't stand those third party preinstalled bloatware programs either. Laptops are always loaded with them. If they cause problems or you don't need them just uninstall them as you already did.

As for changing channels on the router, I mistakingly assumed that you already were trying different channels when you were adjusting the router securty settings. Best not to assume anything I guess.

Chev65,

Thanks for all the help. No problem about the channels things, I should have tried that right off the bat but who woulda thunk it seeing that my Dell was working perfectly on the setting it was one.

Any thoughts on why I can't seem to stop AIM and HP advisor from running at boot??

You should be able to stop those services by typing "msconfig" into the start/search, find those processes under the services tab or under the startup tab and uncheck or disable them. I'm not sure why you can't just uninstall them but that would drive me crazy.

Chev65,

Yeah I keep turning them off udner MSCONFIG and they magically activate themselves again after a restart.

It's frikkin furstrating, So I just uninstalled the programs.

I've even tried WinPatrol and they delete them from the Startup and the strange thing is, after deleting them and I am using my computer, WinPatrol keeps coming up with warnings that AIM is trying to add itself back to the startup and whether I should allow it, I choose no and the notice keeps coming up 5 or 6 times an hour after. So, the only thing that's worked is completly uninstalling the programs.
