I cannot open or enable the guest account in Widows7.
I can only do it in VirtualXP to which it is already enabled.
I do not see it in Windows7

In Windows 7:

Search "User Accounts" in start menu, then click "Manage another account", you should see a "Guest" account in there.

Forget XP mode for now...

Ok have managed to do what you asked but the mediagate still does not see any shared folders.
BTW the Guest account only comes up when VirtualXP is run.ning

Here's the step by step guide:

1. Enable Guest account
2. Start-> run, type in -> gpedit.msc
3. Go to "Computer Configuration"->"Windows Settings"->"Security Settings"->"Local Policies"->"User Rights Assignment"
4. Look for "Deny Access to this computer from network", remove "Guest" from there (this in the future might have some security implications if you don't set your NTFS ACL properly). Click OK.
5. Go to "Computer Management" (right click "My Computer", click "Manage")
6. Go to "System Tools"->"Shared Folders"->"Shares", right click your shares that you need to access on the Mediagate device, click "Properties".
7. Go to "Share Permissions" tab, add "Guest" in there.
8. Go to "Security" tab, make sure "Everyone" can at least "Read". Press OK.
9. Close "Computer Management"
10. Go try the share once again on the Mediagate...

Good luck.

OK have done all you have asked & still the Mediagate does not see any shared folders displayed when I open Master.
Even the Guest Folder doesn't come up.

Use your Virtual XP, access "Master" over network, see if you can connect as "Guest", and when you do, can Virtual XP see the shares you share in "Master" when logged on as "Guest"... If you can see the shares in Virtual XP, then indeed Mediagate need to update it's Samba client.

What do u mean by Mediagate does not see any shared folders?

Is there a separate screen for the mediagate to view the shares from W7?

Master is your Pc.

When I start the mediagate I can view it on the TV screen via Audio/Video cable link.
On the screen I have the option of viewing media files via either the local setting
(i.e.on the hard drive fitted in the mediagate) or via the network mode (i.e. connected
to my PC via the CAT5 cable connected to my router).
When I select the network mode the mediagate searches for the networked PC & the PC name
is displayed on the screen. (Master)
When I select Master if everything is connected ok it dthen displays all my shared folders on my PC.
This is not happening - only when I have VirtualXP running does it show the shared folder I have created
there. I will not allow me (i.e. VirtualXP to setup any shared folders that are in Win7. I have to copy those
files over into the shared folder in VirtualXP to get Mediagate to view them.

All i can think of is maybe File and Printer sharing hasn't been turned on. This was the only option that is needed for me to connect to my W7 shares from XP. Last role of the dice right here from me.

Printer & files shares are turned on. As Altech the Mediagate manufacturers are saying is the possible cause is the programmers of Win7 have set it up to block samba shares & I am at a loss as to why they have done
it. Anyway thanks for all your help. Maybe one day a solution will come up.
For the time being I'll use my WinXP partition to run my Mediagate.

Cheers
