Cannot leave Homegroup

    CAn't leave home group


    I have the exact same problem as described. All the answers I have seen on the web don't provide anything beyond the normal windows procedures Help

    For that type of problem you can read the "Cannot Leave Homegroup" thread below which talks about fixing the same problem.

    I will show you the more direct approach to fixing the problem here. This is another Windows 7 bug apparently so you need to delete some files.

    The fix for this problem seems to be Deleting ALL FILES which reside at C:\windows\serviceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\PeerNetworking

    Once everything at peer Networking Grouping is running you may also need to do this...

    Start the Task Manager
    Click on the service Tab
    Find the "HomeGroupProvider"
    and then stop the service.


    You may need to go back into services and enable Peernetworking again after the fix. Don't forget to restart all machines making the adjustments.

    CAn't leave homegroup solved


    Thanks to Dr Grim I finally was able to leave the homegroup by stopping the "HomeGroupProvider" service as he suggested.

    Yes that part of the fix is highlighted in bold in the above post, seems like I was the one helping out here?

    unable to leave homegroup fix works


    I can confirm you do NOT need to reboot after getting rid of that id file and stopping the homegroup provider service. I was just able to do it- had the same problem. I would reboot anyway when all finished before trying to start a new homegroup.

    I am having this same problem. I deleted the entries in C:\windows\serviceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\PeerNetworking. But the peer networking services will not start, due to getting the error 1068 described. Please help.

    Try this it worked for me


    At first i deleted
    C:\windows\serviceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\PeerNetworking
    Stopped HomeGroup in services through task manager and tried to leave the homegroup - no luck - restarted - still couldnt leave - so in desperation i just DELETED THE ENITRE ROAMING FOLDER.
    Stopped HomeGroup in services through task manager and tried to leave the homegroup -

    SUCESS!!!

    Thank you Chev65, your advice has worked on my computers;

    delete the file from the C:\windows\serviceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\PeerNetworking folder on all computers on the network. (if you can't open this folder, navigate to the 'localservice' folder manually and then type in \AppData this will open the folder). Then stopped HomeGroup in services through task manager and left the homegroup on all computers. I went into Services and everything was running once more, even the 'internet protocol version 6 ipv6' was enabled.

    You have saved me hours of frustration - thank you so much!

    Solved!


    After months of trying to solve this following the instructions I finally just downloaded the ESETSirefefCleaner tool:

    I receive the message that my ESET installation ended prematurely - ESET Knowledgebase


    After the scan was complete the PC restarted and I finally was able to leave the Homegroup...Problem solved!!

    Holy Crap Ola! jcmayartist, Thank you so much! I created a account just to thank you personally. I spent the past 2-3 hours trying to Leave Homegroup! I followed all the forums and their steps. I ran accross yours that said DELETE THE ENITRE ROAMING FOLDER and presto I can leave Homegroup. I easily created another and have new password. Thanks a bunch!
