Cannot access "Change Advanced Sharing Options"

I have ran into some issues trying to network an xp machine and one running windows 7. When trying to access shared folders on the win7 machine from the xp machine it always asks for a user name and passord, the laptop is wireless, and when I enter one for an account that is on the win7 machine it doesn't work.

Follow other posts I am trying to turn of the user name and pass check on the win7 seven machine but I cannot access the "change advanced sharing options" menu. When I click on the link it just does nothing. That is not the only strange issue I am having, there are several other menus scattered around the control panel I cannot access and a few places were right-clicking to properites doesn't work, "Computer" for example. I also have a new issue with IE opening multiple tabs when opening a new one, this one may have been caused by a program that I installed, I removed it and things seem to have improved.

I am running windows 7 enterprize N, any help would be great thanks.

It sounds like you have lost or corrupted some system files to me. Maybe that rouge program caused the problem.

Try going to start/search lower left. Type cmd then right click on the little dos icon and run as admin.
At the cursor type sfc/scannow then enter. Let it complete the scan which will take some time. If the problem isn't fixed try doing it a couple more times.

Yeah buddy. Sounds like your windows is kaput.

If the above doesn't help, create a new user account and see if that works.

I kind of figured that and was considering doing a repair install. I will try the above and see if that works. Thanks for the help.

Have you tried putting in computername\username in the username box? where the computername is the name of your W7. also sounds like the account u used might need it's permissions/security checked. Try the account that you actually logged onto W7 with (admin account).
