Windows 7: wireless wep can't connect in x64

Windows 7 x64 RC build 7127

Hi, cwzkevin,

Can you please report this thread as solved (with the green checkmark on the title) so other users can go straight into it if they run into similar issues as us?

BTW: it is still working like a charm, even after some reboots. MS should definitely use the WinXP x64 drivers for Windows 7, that one they put available through Windows Update doesn't work at all, looks like nobody tested and put it available there.

Cheers

I want it to put "solved", just don't know how to do so.

About the driver, I think they just forget to test WEP, such an old method. Since if I use the seven driver, it works with WPA & WPA2.

Good Lord Microsoft really doesn't want you using WEP in Windows 7. They make you jump through some hoops to get it connected, but I can't complain. It's a good thing really. They pretty much suggest you set your router to at least WPA. I got it connected to a WEP shared-key network, but it took some footwork.

Please don't put as solved, yet!

Hi,

I am encountering the same problem as the original poster, so I followed the solution, but the problem comes when I try to get Windows 7 to use the new win Xp x64 drivers, it simply refuses the request because it states that I am already using the correct, most up to date, driver. Also there is no option to force the change, at least through the various screens I can access.

If there is a way to enforce the driver change, please could someone post a method?

NB I can not use WPA-PSK, because of oldish Belkin NIC on another computer on the network.

Thanks,

PJ

PJ,

The solution is in this thread. Read post #8. I faced the same problem as you (W7 not letting me force-update the drivers), then I got to update it through the steps written on the post #8.
