Network b/up Pro to HomePremium not working

I've tried without success to set up backup from 7 Pro 32-bit to 7 HomePremium 64-bit. The HP box has a 1TB USB drive for backup. That box successfully backs up to it. The two boxes are in a Homegroup, yet the Pro box cannot access the USB drive. With password protected sharing off, permissions set to everyone full control, the drive can be written to from the Pro box.

What am I missing? Or is this not a possible task? Methinks this (share on Home Premium) is not an allowable network location for Pro to backup to.

    Thanks.

I did little checking and Home Premium can't backup to an external drive. I realize you said you were backing up from 7 Pro, but the Home Premium machine still is "involved" in the process.

    Seems kinda misguided to me.

I should think that as far as Home Premium is concerned the backup is to a local drive. After all, that's how the external USB drive appears at that machine. It's a network link from the Pro box to HP. Someone has suggested that the firewall on the HP box is disallowing the backup, but my sense of humor does not extend to figuring that out.

Anyway, I've given up on this and will put an external device on each machine. Chalk it up to another Windows 7 quirk.

A USB drive is seen as external, not internal. But I do agree it should be allowed.
