    Connect 2 Routers together Wirelessly


    Hi all
    My Nephew has a very long house and a computer cannot get a signal from the wireless router which is at the other end of the house. He doesn't want to run RJ45 cables.
    Could he use 2 routers so the second one connects wireless to the first one which is connected to his adsl phone socket by a ethernet cable. if so how would i go about setting them up, settings wise. in easy steps please.

    If so would the computer also be able to talk to each other to be able to transfer files etc to each other.. (enable workgroup & sharing drives/folders) i know how to setup this bit.

    It is possible.. what are the make and model of his routers... some routers are able to become APs

    Ah! so i would need to know the model/spec of the routers. Can you recommend ones with a good signal that can be used/setup this way. Would this be easy to setup?

    eh! what does Aps mean. :)

    Or is there an another alternative.

    A much simpler approach would be to purchase a relay or extender. This is a simplified box which just helps carry your router's/AP's signal further. The relay/extender is much less expensive than another router but can be purchased where you may get a router/AP.

    Oh, AP is an Access Point or the wireless portion of your router.

    You could install a wifi repeater, as long as you set the router and AP on the same subnet, or you could use what is called powerline ethernet for that matter.

Been tackling this problem for over a year now, with a few installs of Windows 7 that ended up making me go back to XP. Well now I have a dual boot with XP SP3 and Win 7 HP x64.
