    win7 suddenly not detecting wireless

i upgraded my desktop machine to windows 7 a few months ago. i had absolutely no trouble whatsoever - everything was a dream right off the bat. however, suddenly today it is no longer detecting any wireless networks. I did not install any software or upgrades of any kind or change any settings. used the internet a few hours ago (just for email, though), then suddenly nothing. i know its not my network b/c there are two other machines in the house that are still connected (incl my netbook that i am writing this from). i haven't spent a lot of time doing any troubleshooting with win7, so i am a little at a loss here. i rebooted the machine, tried disabling and re-enabling the wireless adapter, but it still just doesn't recognize any connections.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Drake

    Welcome!

Hopefully your wireless card is not busted, but we will hope for the best.

First, have you updated the drivers for the card?

Second, can you pick up any networks at all with that machine?

i can't imagine the wireless card just suddenly up & died, but i suppose it can happen.

its not picking up any wireless signals, and there are many to choose from in my neighborhood.

i have not tried updating the drivers (mainly b/c i hadn't yet wanted to deal with the pain of burning them to a disc from another machine), but i can try that.

    Can you hard-wire into Ethernet?

Also, you didn't do any messing around in your BIOS, did you?

Consider a System Restore to yesterday. I doubt it will work, worth a shot.

i haven't tried wired connecting b/c my desktop is across the apartment from the router & modem.

let me try updating the drivers and doing the system restore and see what happens...

Also try your wireless card in another machine. It sounds kind of like a card problem, doesn't it?
