Or are you talking about the network properties?

I am assuming you're trying the following

192.168.1.2
255.255.255.0
192.168.1.1

208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

Not sure what your DNS is so I used Open DNS
Sorry, i meant to ask if dhcp needed to be disabled ont he router. It is, as far as I'm aware already 'on' within the routers config, but 7 keeps saying dhcp was not enabled. I think the best thing to do is for me to do an inconfig /all then that would give you guys a clearer picture of my problem?

From what i can tell, W7 would say DHCP is disabled, because it cannot get to it. Your router is not a DHCP, it is just a device that allows you to connect through to your ISP's DHCP via the modem. If your modem is setup correctly, it'll have permissions given by your ISP to pass through the IPs required for your network to connect to the internet. Your router is like a lift in the building with doors that allows u to get in and out.

If you have access to your router's control panel see if you can locate somethine called a MAC clone option.

Like in this thread.

You can manually put in static IP, subnet and default gateway. Leave the DNS fields blank. Once you have allowed/enable "clone" MAC address, in your router the DNS will be provided automatically. You can surf the net once that's done, and have that static Ip for your machine so others can on the network can connect to it.

Hiya!

It would seem that when I'm using OpenDNS as you g=suggested, everything is fine on a static IP, and I havent touched the mac address optionon the router, but for clarification, here is my inconfig output:

hi again!

Yeah, everything seems ok, my specific ports are open, i have a static IP and as you can see from my posting here, all seems to be well.

What i will do is carry on surfing through my bookmarks, making sure everything is ok, then update here in a few days.

I really cannot say how thankful i am to you guys for helping a n00b like me; but with the experience i have had here, i can build on my knowledge of networking.

THanks again!!!

Sounds like the problem was missing DNS servers. Normally the DHCP server would provide that information and in most cases the Router gets the DNS servers from the ISPs. However, OpenDNS is better then any ISP...
